Hello, Dolly

...and so, after driving about 412 miles round-trip yesterday (all the way down to a bit north of Lexington, Kentucky), Becky and I brought Dolly, an admittedly cute, non-socialized (and extremely timid) Newfie/something mix back here to Lima, OH.

Becky found her listed through a rescue group (or something) online, and admittedly, although I was resistant at first, I'm glad we got Dolly...it sounds like she had what was not the best way of getting by. She was sleeping on a couch by an abandoned house somewhere around Louisville, Kentucky, and hasn't been socialized at all. She's timid and submissive to humans, essentially ignoring us in the you're-not-here-if-I-don't-pay-attention-to-you method, and I'm pretty sure she'd have bolted if she wasn't wearing the harness and leash yesterday. She tried hiding under the car when we stopped at a SuperPetz by Dayton, wheezes heavily sometimes because of the heartworm she has, her fur's dirty...hell, she sounds like an Emo kid, almost.
We picked her up and drove her to a vet's last night; a friend of ours has access to the vet's kennels, and we put her in there with some food, water, and blankets, and apparently the vet will look at her on Monday. Pending her health improving, she'll come to live here at home for a couple/few months while we socialize her and essentially just love her, and get her ready for eventual adoption. It's a challenge, but Becky, who's a softie through and through, did a great deed by bringing her here yesterday, and although I was largely along for the ride, I'm glad the mutt's here too. Pain in the ass dogs.
