Who's this Ben Harper guy?

Got a busy weekend again...which, thankfully, I'm looking forward to. Since there's still shit in terms of job prospects, my usual bout of weekend escapism is much needed and required.

Tonight, after sacrificing my body and ankles to the mighty wallyball god again, it's off to Lima. Becky and I are going to go see Ben Harper tomorrow somewhere north of Detroit, with Damian Marley opening the show. I'm honestly not that familiar with Harper's work, but I like what I've heard, and word is that he puts on a killer show. That, and he's Becky's favorite artist out there...since we're in the front row, if she gets within jumping distance of him, I suppose I'll understand.

I'm curious to see how Damian puts on a show too. I've heard Welcome to Jamrock, and it's a decent album, but he's not quite rootsy enough for what I usually look for in reggae. Then again, when your father is Bob--who can blame him for doing more of his own thing? It'll be good to see a reggae show again, though...something I haven't done in a while.

We're staying at a hotel up near the concert and driving back on Saturday, the rest of which will be spent relaxing, hopefully. Sunday is Groovemaster's gig at Oak Openings Park (the Mallard Lake area), followed by a get-together at my parents' place, and then back to Lima. Monday I'll spend most of down there too, and then back to my usual not-so-happy grind up here.

With all the running around between Toledo, my parents' place, BG, and Lima the past week, I've been forced to eat more fast food than I've really wanted to. It's funny; I used to swear that I'd never lose my taste for it, but after having McD's and BK in a short stretch of time, I wonder how the hell I ever survived my undergrad years. Then again, even back then, I always broke it down by the following:

McDonald's--best breakfast sandwiches (steak, egg, and cheese bagel), and best fries.
Burger King--best burgers.
Rally's--awesome seasoned fries.
Wendy's--best chicken nuggets, and the almighty Frosty.
Arby's--favorite overall, and best chicken tenders out there.
Taco Hell--available only when absolutely desperate for something.

Pizza, of course, remains a perennial favorite too, but I find that if I have too much of it, I start getting really bad heartburn. But now and then, a pizza from Myles is awe-inspiring. Honorable mention goes to Campus Pollyeyes' stuffed breadsticks (grilled chicken, cheese, and mushrooms).

Tonight, however, since I'll be heading south directly from playing wallyball, dinner will probably be a protein bar and Gatorade. :p
